A Slippery Answer to Web Scratching

What percent slippage in idler roller speed relative to web speed is required to create scratches? Answer #1: Zero percent slip. Scratches are a form of abrasive wear. Abrasive wear occurs any time two surfaces are pressed together and then slid relative to each other. Each material will give up something. The softer material, usually the web, will have the more obvious loss of material. Over time, the web abrading the rollers, especially rubber-covered rollers, also will be apparent.
